The Problem

Television used to be a simple thing. Kids could watch TV after coming home from school, unsupervised. Adults could watch the evening news. The whole family could watch a movie together. There was freedom and safety in the simplicity.

Unfortunately, today’s television is completely different. The streaming services put advertisements in front of paying customers. Catalogs are so big and change so often that you can’t predict what’s available or what will be exposed to your family. Parental controls are weak, if they exist at all.

Wholesome entertainment should not be a struggle, and it should not break the bank. To that end, Offline Systems can help you build the library you want for your family. You can have the movies and TV that your children want to watch without providing them everything. Without depending on Big Tech, you can watch what you want, when you want, in any room of the house.

A Streaming Library at Home

Our favorite solution is a little computer, usually silent, with an external hard drive attached, making a home media server. The movies you choose live on that drive, taken from DVDs or other media that you own. The television you already own can typically find and talk to the server without any additional apps or configuration. Finding and choosing what to watch is often as easy as using an online streaming service.

When it comes to building your library, Offline Systems can help you migrate your DVD collection to the server. If you already own the disc, you hand it to us. We copy the movie onto the hard drive, and we hand the disc back. The disc still works in a player. The copy on the drive is what the television uses.

An Old Solution

Media servers are great, but we won’t discredit the old stand-bys. If you just want someone to help you get the VHS, Blu-ray, and DVD players working with your TV, we do that, too.

We can even get excited about broadcast television. Broadcast television gives you the news and family-safe programming for free. We understand it still has advertisements, but at least you don’t feel like you need to supervise your kids watching it.
